Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art
Art school
About
A contemporary art gallery and art instruction studio located in Downtown Augusta. Art classes for adults and youth are offered throughout the year. The Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art was founded in 1937. It is housed in two historic homes - the galleries and main offices are located in the historic "Ware's Folly," built in 1818, former home of Georgia politician Nicolas Ware (1776-1824), and the art classes are held in the Walker Mackenzie Art Education Studio, a renovated 1909 home. While the gallery is located in a building without an elevator, the majority of the art classes offered are ADA accessible.
